Hey guys,

We want to thank everyone who came out to Sneaky Dee's last Friday, we had a BLAST, played with some awesome bands, and really enjoyed playing the new tunes. The crowd (you guys) was one of the best we've ever played to, and we really can't wait to do it again. SO we want to let y'all know that we will be playing our first show in the new year at the Supermarket in Toronto on JANUARY 7TH. We played there in summer and we can't wait to have a repeat of the amazing turnout and super fun times.

Right after the huge turnout at the Supermarket show we are heading to Mat's hometown of Wallaceburg to play at show at the Roxxy Tap and Grill on January 8th. We really can't wait to party it up hometown-style so we're counting on your Wallaceburgians to show us a good time. (Chatham-ites, you are also invited)

In between now and then we will be taking a bit of time off for the holidays and spending time with friends and family. We're also going to get together to write and demo some new tunes so
make sure you check back with us in the new year for new songs, new shows, and maybe Phil will even have a new wardrobe...

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Sneaky Dee's FRIDAY!

This Friday we are SO STOKED to be playing at Sneaky Dee's. We've got some sweet new songs ready to go that we tested out last Friday at the Outback Shack and they rock (seriously, it's not just us, they really do rock). We haven't played in Toronto for a while so it'll be nice to see some Toronto friends and all their friends who come out. We're playing with Black Pistol Fire, Proxy Set, and Dirty Analogue and we go on at 10 pm. We've been spending a lot of time writing and can't wait to hear what you think about the new material.

Til then,

Outback Shack and Sneaky Dee's

After taking a week off to write and practice, we are pumped to head back to the Outback Shack at Fanshawe College for New Music Night on Dec 4th. As always, this is a FREE show, and we're playing with The Joys, so it's gonna be a wicked good time. Just to remind you, this is what happened last time we played the Shack:

So unless you want Lance's middle finger in your face or Sean cruelly trapped in a car (or maybe because you do want these things) make sure to come out this Friday, listen to some tunes, and maybe even ingest some alcoholic beverages.

After recuperating from Shack we will head to Toronto for a show a Sneaky Dee's on December 11th. It's our first time at Sneaky Dee's and we can't wait to rock your socks off in a new venue. We'll post more details about it as soon as we've got 'em, and we'll see all you Londoners on Friday.

Ottawa Show - Cancelled

Hi everyone, due to unforseen circumstances, we've had to cancel The Rainbow show in Ottawa scheduled for this Wednesday, November 18. We were really looking forward to this show so we're kinda bummed, but we'll be back in the Ottawa area for sure really soon, and hope to see everyone then!

Barrie and Pandemic

Hey Guys,

Last week we ventured into Bolton Ontario for the first time and has an awesome night at the St. Louis Bar and Grill. Huge thanks goes out to Indie Love Radio for organizing the night and to all the Boltonites who came to rock out with us. If all goes according to plan we will be back in that neck of the woods in the new year.

This week will be just as awesome when we take over the Foxx Lounge in Barrie on Friday and Pandemic in London on Saturday. Right after our 9:00 set at Pandemic Eric is running off to join his other band Maloonigan's Bruise at the London Music Club, so make sure you get there early and don't forget to head over to the LMC.

See y'all soon!

The Lull!

As if on cue (or as a result of careful planning) hot on the heels of both our placement on Degrassi and the previous blog post, here is a the video for the Lull! We really want to thank everyone who came out. We had a blasty-blast and we hope it shows in the video. Thanks again to Jeremy Bugden who filmed this masterpiece and Mike Whissell who graciously relinquished his place in the spotlight and recorded the audio.

November Shows

Hey Guys,

October was a sweet month for us, and coming up in November we have a video for The Lull, featuring about 30 of our closest friends from London, two new songs and whole bunch of shows:

Bolton - November 6 - St. Louis Bar and Grill
Barrie - Nov 13 - Foxx Lounge
London - Nov 14 - Pandemic
Ottawa - Nov 18 - The Rainbow

We are especially looking forward to the show at Pandemic, and after we play Eric is joining his other band and our friends in Maloonigan's Bruise at the London Music Club, so be sure to hit up both shows for a night of sweet, sweet music, and Eric Walker.

See you soon!

It's (Pre) Halloween!

Although we don't really need an excuse to dress up (have you ever seen Lance's wardrobe?) we're stoked that we've been given one by New Standard Radio.com who have invited us to play their
pre-Halloween Bangers and Mash show this Thursday the 29th at the Blackshire Pub in London. We love to play in London and this show should be extra fun because we are playing with DJs Grant Thomas and Josh Bryant so it's guaranteed to be a really high energy show. Blackfly Coolers and Flagswipe Paintball are providing prizes for the best costume and if that wasn't incentive enough to come, cover is only $2! The show starts at 10 and we go on right after Grant Thomas. This show is gonna be big, so make sure you get there early - and try the Irish nachos, because they are delicious.

It's D-Day!

That's right, tonight The Lull will be featured on an episode of Degrassi: The Next Generation. The episode will be on CTV at 7pm EST and will be hosted on CTV's website after it airs on television. CTV also has past episodes so if you want to get all caught up, you can go check them out. Just don't ask Sean about Declan and Jane, he gets really emotional about it...

Upcoming Shows

Hey all,

We just wanted to remind everyone of some shows that are coming up. Tomorrow (or tonight, depending on when you are reading this), Thursday September 24, we are playing at Lee's Palace in Toronto. Doors are at 8:30, we go on at 10 and cover is $5. We are playing with Blacklist Manifesto, Wildlife, and Championship Heartache.

Saturday we're in London playing at the Blackshire Pub with Hotel Royal and Nathan Oulette. This show starts at 10 and it marks our first time ever at the Blackshire. Judging from last week's shenanigans, these shows should be a pretty good time.

Now, we have some time off between shows, but we're so dedicated to you guys that we aren't taking a break - Friday and Saturday we're crashing at Phil's place in London and writing new songs (plus practicing some old ones). You've already heard "Sympathy" and we're going to get "Stronger in the Broken Places" up as soon as we can, but we're hoping to add many more to those over the next couple months.

Can't wait for this weekend - hope to y'all out

Just Like We Promised

In an earlier post we mentioned we were going to be interviewed by the Fanshawe College student newspaper, and that we would post the story as soon as we could. Well, the issue came out today, and here is the story! Thanks to Jessica Ireland, who was both professional and likeable. Here are just a couple of the things she had to say:

"Local boys Phil Laffin and Eric Walker returned to their roots – the Out Back Shack – with their bandmates, drummer Mat Pataki and guitarist Lance Schibler to deliver a high-energy rock show, coupled with fans who seemed to know every word."

"Their music, which covers everything from relationships, complete fiction and nuggets of truth expanded into stories, is exciting and makes you want to move"

Thanks again to everyone who came out and had fun with us.

Story Time with Lance and Mat

In order to make these blogs a little more interactive, we've decided to do a series of video blogs. This is the first we've done, and is basically that same stuff as the previous blog, but with a little more Lance and Mat, and a little less reading, which makes for some good video blog. Let us know what you think!

Thank You!

So last weekend we had a run of three shows in Toronto, London, and Barrie and we just wanted to say a huge Thank You to everyone who came out. The shows were so much fun (Hooters? Yes, please!) and here is some pictographic proof.

This first set is from C'est What, in Toronto (thanks to Kerri for the photos).

Mat plays drums REALLY hard...

Phil likes to scream

Lizz has three arms! And huge tats! Lizz is hardcore

Here are some from Fanshawe College, where we played the first New Music Night of the year with Flash Lightning and Songs From a Room (thanks for the pics Lizz and the Fanshawe Student Union)

We need to thank the handsome man in the middle of this pictograph. Pat Maloney is our old friend and the promoter at Fanshawe College, and he is responsible for the debauchery seen below (not pictured: Phil covering Mat, and the green room, in mustard). Schmegins, Pat, Schmegins

Sean briefly got trapped in the car...and then wouldn't let anyone else in

Apparently what Mat was carrying was heavy, but it probably wasn't

We didn't get any pictures at Hooters (sorry...) but we were able to stop in at the studio in Toronto to get this acoustic performance of Sympathy, an unreleased track we like to play nowadays.

Thanks again everyone, and like Phil said, come check us out at Lee's Palace on the 24th, we'll promise it'll be just as good (and less mustard-y) than these past shows!

C'est What?! Three New Shows and our Return to Fanshawe College

It’s going to be a busy weekend for us but we are so pumped for the shows coming up. The first one is Thursday at C’est What in Toronto (http://www.cestwhat.com/) at 67 Front at Church. It’s our first time playing C’est What and we are really looking forward to it, even more so because we are playing with our London friends the Standstills. Standstills go on at 9, we’re on at 10 and cover is $6. C’est What is “Toronto’s true local flavour in craft beer and comfort food since 1988” (according to themselves) and they are a micro-brewery, so as Lance says, it’s like drinking beer right out of the cow’s udder. Or something a little more delicious, and a little less graphic.

Friday we’re in London to play the very first New Music Night at the Outback Shack at Fanshawe College – doors at 9pm. Can’t wait to get back to the Shack and this time we are playing with Flash Lightning (www.myspace.com/flashlightnin), and Windsor powerhouse Songs From a Room (http://www.myspace.com/fromtheroom). Last time we played with them ol’ Patty Muldoon (who?) smashed a beer bottle on stage, so who knows what’s going to happen this time. We’ve got some new songs and some new tricks up our sleeves (literally? Maybe…) so you really can’t miss this one. We’ll also be interviewed by the Interrobang that night, and we’ll post that interview as soon as we can.

After the Shack we are going back up north to Barrie to play the Barrie New Music Fest on Saturday. We play Stix Sports Bar at 137 Dunlop St. East at 8:30. Wristbands are $10.00 and get you into shows the whole weekend. We’re playing with The Crystal Kage and TOP JOHNNY! as part of the NMF, which runs Sep. 10 -13 and features 75 new Canadian bands.

Big Things Coming Down the Pipe

A big thanks to everyone that came out to Clinton's last Thursday. We had a blast, changed up the set list a bit, tried to keep it fresh. Speaking of fresh, we've been writing a lot lately and I can see at least 4 new songs in the near future, so we won't be boring you with material that you know intimately since you've been listening to the EP non stop. Also, some huge news, Sean landed us a placement on Degrassi. Not sure when its airing yet, but I’m pretty sure it'll be The Lull, I tried to wrangle a deal where I play Wheels’ younger brother but they weren’t having it, especially since I’m about 10yrs too old, we’ll keep ya posted.

In other news, the next few weeks are going to be busy. The barn party, the best party of the year, 3 years running; Barrie New Music Festival, a huge to do in Barrie with about 75 different acts, a live acoustic radio performance (which I’ll update details on as they come in), and probably 3-4 magazine interviews. So you'll probably be hearing from us quite a bit this month. And, if that wasn't enough, we'll be playing Fanshawe College's first New Music night of the year on Friday Sept 11th, which if history is any indication will be some of the most fun you can have within the confines of the Canadian legal system.

Next up for us is a show at the Cathedral on August 27. For those of you with a touch of metal, come check it out, here are the other bands we'll be playing with:
http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/event.php?eid=145181291270

And if you're in the Cantley PQ area, we're also playing Warnockstock Festival

I hope your enjoying your summer,
Lance

May 27th @ The Supermarket

So the last two weeks have been pretty eventful for the band. For one we've finally gotten our new 6 song EP "Morning Sun" back from pressing. It really sounds great and I for one am very proud of it. Mat and Lance did an amazing job recording this and they both sunk a lot of time in to this project, especially Mat.

The artwork by our friends Ian and Mel is amazing and we can't thank them enough. Another person that really needs to be thanked is our friend and co-hort and manager Sean Russell (aka Bergrant). He has really sparked this band when we needed it most and If anything goes right with this band it will probably be because of him. He has booked some really amazing shows coming up in the near future that you should all keep an eye out for on the Horizon.

One such show is May 27th at The Supermarket in Toronto. It is a sweet bar in the Kensington Market area not to far from where Lance and Mat live. They are hosting a pre-show BBQ for anyone who is interested I'm hoping to make it in to Toronto early enough to attend. The reason this show is so amazing is becase

A) It's an Industry Showcase (Important people will be there)

B) It is our first show since we've gotten our CD's back from press and although it is not officially a CD release you can bet we will be selling them.

C) It's in Toronto and the spring has finally arrived after a long winter so come out and have a beer or a ceaser or a gin and tonic with us, grill a sausage or two and come out and listen to some of the Rock and Roll stylings of The Decade of Sleep.

Morning Sun EP

Hey Everyone,
Happy 420! Unfortunately I am spending it in bed sick which sucks. That being said though I thought it was a good time to get started on this whole Blog thing and let everyone know what is going on with us.

The Decade of Sleep has been togeather now for a year and a half, before that Lance, Mat and I were in a band called The Skywriters with a great singer songwriter by the name of Shaman Ayerhart (check him out he is awesome).

When the Skywriters broke up Lance and Mat and I decided we wanted to keep playing togeather but to focus on writing more pop oriented songs. We still wanted to write heavy rock tunes but ones that we could actually perceive as being "radio friendly" With that in mind we started writing a whole new set of tunes. We recorded our new songs and now we are on the heels of releasing our debut 6 song EP Morning Sun which we are very excited about. The balance of soft and heavy on the album is great and it was engineered by Lance and Mat and mixed mostly by Mat as well. It's no home recording though don't be fooled both Mat and Lance are professional engineers, they do it for a living and it really shows in the quality of the recordings.

We are also excited to have our good friend Eric Walker playing with us. He is the former lead guitar player of The Hoolie Snatch, a band that we were huge fans of and Lance and myself also had stints as guitarists for them as well. When The Hoolie's, as we affectionately called them, broke up we agreed that having Eric in The Decade of Sleep would be a huge asset and so I relinquished my bass duties to him (quite happily) and now we are a quartet.

We've played 4 or 5 shows with Eric now and it feels and sounds awesome and we are looking ahead to a summer of awesome shows. Here is hoping that you all get to come out and see at least one this summer and if you are in the Toronto area for May 27th then you won't want to miss us playing at The Supermarket. I personally guarantee a melt your face and moisten the seat of your pants rock extravaganza.

Sincerely,

Phil Laffin
