Hey Everyone,
Happy 420! Unfortunately I am spending it in bed sick which sucks. That being said though I thought it was a good time to get started on this whole Blog thing and let everyone know what is going on with us.
The Decade of Sleep has been togeather now for a year and a half, before that Lance, Mat and I were in a band called The Skywriters with a great singer songwriter by the name of Shaman Ayerhart (check him out he is awesome).
When the Skywriters broke up Lance and Mat and I decided we wanted to keep playing togeather but to focus on writing more pop oriented songs. We still wanted to write heavy rock tunes but ones that we could actually perceive as being "radio friendly" With that in mind we started writing a whole new set of tunes. We recorded our new songs and now we are on the heels of releasing our debut 6 song EP Morning Sun which we are very excited about. The balance of soft and heavy on the album is great and it was engineered by Lance and Mat and mixed mostly by Mat as well. It's no home recording though don't be fooled both Mat and Lance are professional engineers, they do it for a living and it really shows in the quality of the recordings.
We are also excited to have our good friend Eric Walker playing with us. He is the former lead guitar player of The Hoolie Snatch, a band that we were huge fans of and Lance and myself also had stints as guitarists for them as well. When The Hoolie's, as we affectionately called them, broke up we agreed that having Eric in The Decade of Sleep would be a huge asset and so I relinquished my bass duties to him (quite happily) and now we are a quartet.
We've played 4 or 5 shows with Eric now and it feels and sounds awesome and we are looking ahead to a summer of awesome shows. Here is hoping that you all get to come out and see at least one this summer and if you are in the Toronto area for May 27th then you won't want to miss us playing at The Supermarket. I personally guarantee a melt your face and moisten the seat of your pants rock extravaganza.
Sincerely,
Phil Laffin
