Ottawa is quickly moving up our list of favourite places to play. We just completed another two-nighter with The Joys at Grace O'Malley's Irish Pub East, and man, what a riot it was. Ottawa is a fairly new city to us, being that we've only played there over two weekends now, but there is something distinctly different about that place. Unlike many audiences new to a band, Ottawa isn't afraid to immediately like original material that they haven't heard before and cheer loudly to show it. I find many new audiences will do the "ya, I liked that" head nod, and the quiet clap while they look around at the people next to them to see if they're having a differing reaction. But not Ottawa. Your reaction is a little more like this:
Ok so those are clearly soccer fans but you get the sentiment.. Add to that shot a few more tasty beers and a beautiful women for every mediocre dude and you'll understand why we love Ottawa so much.
